With stories of high peaks nestled in the Flatiron ridge
And when the day arrives that I move to Colorado
I'll start building that Great Plains and Midwest homebound bridge

And I'll bring you back a present of my lessons found
And I'll tell you about all that I discovered
Those mountains will only steal me for a day or so
'cause I promise that I'll be back around tomorrow

But for now that blood rock has changed my skin
And those granite shards have caught me
Arizona's monsoon tangled me within
A lavender bloomed sunset frame

And I'll write about all the things that have caught my eye
I know you miss me but have no sorrow, Momma
If you write to me, I'll be quick to reply
And I promise that I'll be back around tomorrow

Fly or ship me far away from this place
To let the falling water wash that grit off my face
To a new expression in Kaulalau
Where Kaua'i became my new landed home

And I swear I had no intention to stay so far away from you
But by the time I looked back, the ocean filled in the cracks
And I was on an island a million miles away from you

And there's reasons why I continued my trek West
And there's reasons I found Portland when I roamed
I hope you know it wasn't because of you Momma
That I searched for peace away from my first Ohio home

I'm a reflection of that love from the people here
Some days are hard but mostly I'm in awe
I've been beaten and bruised and healed and amused
And my surroundings have shown me God

So just call me and I'll start swimming back to you
If you need me, I'll burn through that desert serpent
I'll freeze in Rocky's glacier blue
Just to tell you I'm still your son
